Why do I need a brand identity?

Gather round children, I’m going to tell you the inspirational story of a chap named Jimmy.

‘Twas one cold winter’s night after a hard day’s work at the office, little Jimmy curled up and fell asleep to the warmth and sound of the crackling fire. He drifted into a peaceful dream land and imagined what life would be like if he started his own mountain bike company. He dreamt of the freedom the winding mountain trails and his own laid back management would bring him. Jimmy’s comforting dream carried on long into the night until he slowly awoke to rays of sunshine beaming through the frosty glass windows.

The sky soon turned to rain and Jimmy was suddenly full of dread at the thought of having to endure another hard and long day’s work at the office. So he thought to himself, enough is enough. He was going to fulfil last night’s dream and create the biggest and best mountain bike company the world had ever seen. So he got to work, planning and sketching every little detail and thought that came into his head, building his new company from the ground up. He even had his own logo design that envisaged every aspect he could have ever dreamt of, things were going well. Jimmy kept this up all through the winter, until the struggle of paying the bills became too much. He couldn’t understand, he had done everything right but the company had no customers and wasn’t bringing any money in.

It was the eve of the Spring Equinox and an exhausted Jimmy had been sat toiling away in front of his computer screen all day. He eventually fell asleep at his desk with his head in his arms and drifted off into another dream, although this time he found himself on the ground in a sparse and lifeless meadow. The sky was dull and grey, the cold drew increasingly near and just when all hope was about to fade, a blinding beacon of bright yellow light emanated from the horizon and bathed Jimmy’s face with a compassionate warmth. A tall and fluffy silhouette rose and parted the light in front of Jimmy, all of a sudden he could see green shoots reaching from the ground and flowers blossoming, he could hear the insects softly buzzing and the deer grazing. As his eyes adjusted, he watched the four legged figure slowly move towards him, painting the sky with blue as it did so. Finally it came to a stop. A large and wise black cat stood before Jimmy, a beacon of hope in his sad and bleak dream.

The cat took a deep breath and spoke with a soft tone, “Jimmy, you fool. You overlooked the most important aspect of your marketing.” Jimmy exclaimed, “but I did everything I could possibly think of!” The cat exhaled calmly and said, “to succeed in business, one must first master their identity. Only then will you receive the admiration you seek.” And with that, the cat blinked slowly, nodded at Jimmy and with a swoosh of his tail, turned and walked away as mysteriously as he arrived, leaving behind the first sight of Spring. Jimmy stood there in the meadow that was now teaming with life and felt a wave of relief pass over him. He was still unsure about the cat’s cryptic message but had now been gifted the motivation to discover the answers.

“Tap, tap, tap…” Jimmy awoke to the sound of a soft tapping at the front door. He quickly got and opened the door to find a world of green, buzzing with life before his eyes. The first day of Spring had brought peace and clarity to Jimmy. As he looked down he noticed a small parcel on his doorstep. He crouched down to inspect the contents and found what can only be described as the holy grail of brand identity packages. It was signed at the bottom with a small paw print. Jimmy felt his heart radiate warmth and tears of joy fill his eyes. He now knew what he had to do.

Suddenly he heard a loud rustling in the bushes of the forest that laid opposite his house. Jimmy couldn’t believe his eyes as a silky black cat slowly emerged from the undergrowth and looked right at him. Stunned for a moment, Jimmy finally shouted, “thank you!” and waved. A soft and chirruped “meow” returned as he disappeared into the dense forest.

Jimmy looked down at the package in has hands and turned it over, on the reverse it read “FelixCo. where dreams become a reality.”

The end.

So Jimmy finally learnt the secret to success. Your brand needs a strong brand identity to stand out from the crowd and gain trust from your audience. The only way to become recognisable is to be consistent and unique, create brand values and a brand story. To own a strong brand identity, you also need a matching visual identity. These two go hand in hand for creating an unstoppable brand. You could have the best business plan in the world but without a brand for your audience to invest in, it’ll go nowhere.

Luckily, I’m here to help. Exceptional brand design is a foundational pillar in the FelixCo. temple.

Don’t end up like Jimmy before he discovered the secret. Achieve Brand Excellency with FelixCo.

Now take a hike so I can get back to designing the next awesome brand eh? (Could it be you who receives a visit from the cat next..?)
